What it measures
The smartPredict grid measures constraint propagation — given a grid where each symbol appears once per row and column, how quickly you find the one cell whose occupant is forced, and the cell that opens up next. The digit format measures the same discipline over arithmetic: place the digits so the equation holds, with each digit used once. Neither ever requires a guess; both punish starting from the wrong cell.
