SHL Verbal Reasoning Sample Questions — Playable, With Solutions
The SHL Verify verbal test gives you a short passage, a statement, and three options — True, False, or Cannot Say — under a clock that leaves roughly 60–90 seconds per item. Almost everyone who fails it fails on the same thing: using what they know instead of what the passage says. The questions below are playable; each solution names the exact trap.

The Cannot-Say discipline
True means the passage states it or it follows logically from what is stated. False means the passage contradicts it. Cannot Say means the passage gives you neither — and this is where the marks are lost, because your general knowledge screams an answer the text never gave. The test is measuring exactly that discipline: can you reason strictly inside the four corners of a document? Compliance, legal, consulting and finance roles read this score closely for precisely that reason.
The three traps, named
1. Outside knowledge. The statement is plausible, common knowledge even — but the passage never says it. Cannot Say. 2. Scope creep. The passage says “some managers”; the statement says “managers”. Generalising a partial claim flips True into Cannot Say. 3. Reversed causality. The passage links A and B; the statement claims A causes B. Correlation stated, causation asked — Cannot Say.
How to prepare effectively
Untimed first, until the True/False/Cannot Say boundaries are reflexive. Then timed runs at adaptive difficulty, because the real test tightens while you answer. Track which of the three traps takes your marks — for most candidates it is overwhelmingly the first one, and knowing that changes how you read every passage.
Persona Prep generates SHL-style verbal items with fresh passages every run, full worked solutions naming the trap, adaptive timed runs, and a stanine rank (1–9) against other candidates. Two aptitude exercises are free, no card required.
