How to read a Hogan HPI report

Understand the seven HPI scales, percentile context and how to prepare useful examples for a feedback conversation.

Full practice from €35.99 for one week, renewing weekly until cancelled. Independent preparation; usage limits apply.

Start with the right question

An HPI report describes workplace tendencies. It is not a percentage of correct answers. Read it alongside the role, your experience and the feedback provided by the assessment administrator.

What the seven scales cover

Hogan names seven main scales: Adjustment, Ambition, Sociability, Interpersonal Sensitivity, Prudence, Inquisitive and Learning Approach. Together they describe everyday working behaviour.

A score near either end is a starting point for discussion, not an automatic hiring verdict. Ask what a tendency looks like in the work you actually do.

Percentiles are comparisons, not grades

An official percentile places a score against a reference group. It does not mean you answered that proportion of questions correctly. Check the report’s own guidance and discuss interpretation with a qualified feedback provider.

Persona Prep provides an independent practice report. Its indicators are not Hogan’s official percentiles, norms or employer cut-offs.

Turn a pattern into a concrete example

Choose one work situation where the tendency helped you, one where it created a difficulty, and one adjustment you made. Describe the situation, your action and the outcome.

For example, if you favour careful planning, explain when that prevented an error and when you had to decide with incomplete information. Avoid inventing a perfect personality for the interview.

Your preparation in three steps

First, check which assessment your invitation actually names. Next, practise responding to original workplace statements and review your own examples. Finally, prepare questions for the feedback conversation.

Full Persona Prep practice includes independent personality reports and aptitude exercises, subject to the selected plan and usage limits. Try the short public sample before deciding whether to subscribe.
