The Korn Ferry Assessment: Traits and Leadership Fit

Korn Ferry's assessments are widely used for graduate, professional and leadership hiring. They typically combine ability tests with a traits and drivers questionnaire that maps your personality against the demands of the role and, for leadership tracks, the Korn Ferry model of readiness. Here is what it measures and how to prepare.

What the questionnaire measures

The personality component profiles your traits (how you naturally behave) and drivers (what motivates you), then compares them to what the role rewards. Korn Ferry frames potential around dimensions such as experience, competencies, traits and drivers — the questionnaire feeds the traits-and-drivers side.

The format

Expect rating scales and, increasingly, forced-choice items where you prioritise one statement over another. Forced-choice stops everyone scoring “strongly agree” on desirable traits and forces a profile with real peaks and valleys, plus a consistency check that flags contradictory answering.

What recruiters read

The fit between your profile and the role, not any single answer. A shape that matches the competencies — and that stays consistent across the questionnaire — beats a profile that tries to look strong on everything. For leadership roles, drivers (ambition, collaboration, structure) matter as much as traits.

How to prepare

Know your own trait ranking and answer consistently. The most reliable preparation is to run a full forced-choice practice test, read the report, and note where you naturally sit and which dimensions feel uncomfortable — so on the real day you answer in a coherent flow rather than second-guessing each item.
