Cadet pilot program assessments, stage by stage
Cadet programs — easyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air, Lufthansa Group, BA and the flight schools that feed them — filter thousands of applications with online assessments before anyone touches a simulator. Based on what candidates consistently report, here is what each stage measures, and how to practise the exact formats. Persona Prep is an independent preparation platform, not affiliated with any airline or test publisher.

The three stages candidates report
1 · Online aptitude battery
Candidates report cut-e (Aon) style modules in most European cadet programs: numerical and verbal scales, deductive grids, spatial orientation, monitoring and multitasking. Timed, adaptive, and the first cut — most rejections happen here.
2 · Personality questionnaire
A forced-choice or agreement-scale inventory (ADEPT-15 style, or the program's own). Airlines look for the calm-conscientious-cooperative shape: steady under pressure, procedure-friendly, crew-oriented. Consistency is scored.
3 · Assessment day
Group exercises, HR + technical interviews, sometimes a sim or hand-eye coordination test. Your online results are on the table — expect questions about any extreme scores.
Why the aptitude battery eliminates the most people
The cut-e style modules are unlike school maths: 60–90 second bursts, adaptive difficulty, and formats you have probably never seen — deductive grids, drifting-dot monitoring, two tasks at once. Familiarity is worth more here than anywhere else in the funnel: the first time you meet gridChallenge should not be on selection day. Candidates who trained the formats report the real test feeling «like another practice run».
The personality stage is not a formality
Programs increasingly weight the inventory: a cadet is a 20-year investment in someone who must stay calm, follow procedure and work in a crew. You cannot fake the profile — consistency checks flag reverse-engineered answers — but you can know your own shape before they do, and answer with the coherence the scoring rewards. Practise a full forced-choice run, read the report, and arrive knowing exactly which dimensions your interviewers will probe.
